Twenty-eight high school track and field teams will converge on Deer Park High School for the annual Glenn Wolf Invitational track and field meet on April 3. The meet is named after former Deer Park High School athlete Glenn Wolf, who made an impact on the school’s track and field program. Wolf earned the Stags' fifth place in the then all-classification state meet held at Rogers Field on the campus of what is now Washington State University (WSU) in Pullman. He was the lone Deer Park competitor.
While at Washington State College, Wolf would finish fifth in the Big 6 meet (which later became the Pacific-8 conference) 100-meter dash in a time of 9.8 seconds – the world record at the time was 9.3 seconds. He ran for WSU coach Jack Mooberry, and one of his college teammates was John Chaplin, who went on to have a storied coaching career with the Cougars.
Wolf volunteered for many seasons with the Deer Park High School track program, usually beginning his day in the fields of his farm before heading to the school, and often finishing his farmwork late in the evening under the light of his tractor.
