Controlled DNR burn planned near Deer Park

Staff Writer

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is planning a controlled burn of piles of woody debris as part of the Owens Timber sale near Deer Park.
The burn is expected to take place on or about the morning of Nov. 4, although the exact date and timing is dependent on weather factors, such as wind direction, and burning may be postponed until favorable conditions exist.
The burns will be conducted on state lands southeast of Deer Park. Smoke may be visible from U.S. Highway 2 during the burn process.
DNR has requested smoke management approval from the Northwest Interagency Communications Center for that date and will confirm with the Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency that no burn restrictions are in place.
DNR has notified Spokane County Fire District 4 of the location and times of burn activity. Burns are conducted and managed under the supervision of trained fire professionals and do not need to be reported to 911.
