All-League Sports Wrap Up

Greater Spokane League winter sports all-league selections were announced last week, with athletes from local schools joining the ranks.

Deer Park High School

Leading the list of Deer Park honorees was girls basketball player Ashlan Bryant. The junior was selected league MVP (Most Valuable Player) for the third consecutive season. She was also on the first team squad at the recent state tournament in Yakima. Joining her from the Lady Stags hoops program was senior Jacey Boesel on the first team and senior Emma Bryant on the second team. Both were repeat honorees.

Four Stag boys wrestlers earned first team honors by winning district titles, including: Tucker Miller (113 pounds), Parker Hamilton (132 pounds), Kole Miller (157 pounds), and Solomon Slind (285 pounds).  District runner up Emmit Priddy (165 pounds) was a second team honoree.

State second place finisher Hailee Orgill (155 pounds) led the list of all-league girls wrestling selections that also included: Evelyn Scott (125 pounds), Emme Bogle (145 pounds), and Harper Davis (170 pounds). Makenzie Reynolds (235) was district runner up and was a second team honoree.

Riverside High School

Headlining the list for Riverside honorees was sophomore 113-pound wrestler Bodey Schweiger, who captured his second consecutive state title. Rams Head Coach Sammy DesRoches was named coach of the year. Also earning first team honors were: Clancy Olson (106 pounds), Spencer Scarpelli (132 pounds), Luke Desroches (157 pounds), Ryder Wolcott (175 pounds), Vincent Ordaz (215 pounds), and Jacob Schuch (285 pounds).

On the hardwood, a pair of boys players were honored. Junior Ben Riggles was named to the first team and senior Justin Gaffaney was selected second team. Gaffaney was also selected as the Defensive Player Of The Year.
