The 43rd annual Loonsday race was hosted in Loon Lake on Saturday, June 6. The event had over 100 runners and walkers participate this year, according to event organizers.

Operated by community volunteers, the nonprofit organization raises scholarship funds to help local students pursue higher education. Organizers said dollars raised in the Deer Park area stay in the Deer Park area, directly benefiting local graduates.

District leaders said they are aiming to open the new building for the start of the upcoming school year.

“We started it last year and did one big event,” said organizing committee member Michaela Teeselink. “It was such a success. It was super fun.”
