A fast start by the Lakeside girls basketball team lifted them past the Colville Crimson Hawks 46-24 in the NEA League championship game Feb. 17 at West Valley High School.

Top-seeded Lakeside (15-6) opened the contest on a 21-3 run in the first quarter which proved too much for Colville to overcome. The Eagles advanced to the District 5/6 tournament. Second-seeded Colville (13-7, 4-2) will also advance to the District 5/6 tournament, but will be in a loser-out contest against Medical Lake on Thursday, Feb. 19.

The Eagles set the tone early behind Blakleigh White, who finished with a game-high 15 points.

Colville showed signs of life in the second quarter, tightening up defensively and outscoring Lakeside 9-6 in the frame. The Hawks trimmed the deficit slightly heading into halftime, but still trailed 27-12.

Lakeside regrouped after the break, putting together a 10-point third quarter to stretch the lead to 37-18 entering the final period. The Eagles added nine more points in the fourth to seal the 22-point victory.

For Colville, scoring was spread out across the lineup. Andee Kroiss, Andrea Edwards, and Georgia Beardslee each scored five points.

Facing Medical Lake Feb. 19

Kroiss scored a game-high 15 points to lead Colville to a 39-36 win over Medical Lake in the NEA League second-place game Thursday night at West Valley High School.

With the victory, the Crimson Hawks improved to 15-7 overall and advanced to a District 5/6 crossover round Saturday, Feb. 21. Medical Lake saw its season end at 6-15.

The matchup was tightly contested throughout, with neither team able to build a comfortable cushion. Colville held a slim 9-8 lead after the first quarter and extended it to 17-13 at halftime in a defensive battle.

The Cardinals closed the gap in the second half, but the Crimson Hawks maintained enough separation down the stretch. Colville carried a 29-23 advantage into the fourth quarter before Medical Lake rallied with 13 points in the final frame. The Hawks held on to secure the three-point win.

Kroiss connected on seven field goals and added a free throw to pace Colville offensively. Beardslee contributed seven points.

Colville shot 16-of-39 from the field and went 6-for-20 at the free-throw line. Medical Lake finished 12-of-36 from the floor and 8-of-24 at the stripe. The Cardinals made four 3-pointers compared to one for Colville.

Season End Against Wapato

The girls team faced the Wapato Wolves Saturday, Feb. 21, in a game that would determine a spot in the state tournament. The Lady Crimson Hawks fell to the Wolves 54-40, ending their chance at state play. Details of the game were not available at press time.
