Darnold Powers Colville’s Boys Basketball Team in District Elimination Game

With the season on the line for the Crimson Hawks boys basketball team, Parker Darnold delivered.

Darnold poured in a game-high 22 points on Feb. 17 to lift the Hawks to a 56-49 victory over Riverside in a NEA League loser-out game at West Valley High School.

Colville set the tone early, jumping out to a 13-9 lead after the first quarter. The Crimson Hawks continued to build momentum in the second, outscoring Riverside 14-11 to take a 27-20 advantage into halftime.

The Hawks maintained control in the third quarter, pushing the lead to 37-29 behind timely outside shooting. Colville knocked down eight 3-pointers throughout the contest, including four from Darnold and two from Jet Bateman, stretching the Rams’ defense.

Riverside made a late push in the fourth quarter, scoring 20 points to close the gap. Ben Riggles led the Rams with 14 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Colville matched Riverside with 19 points in the final frame to seal the seven-point win.

Darnold shot 7-of-7 from the field and 4-of-6 from the free-throw line on his way to 22 points. Quentin Huggins added 11 points, while Bateman and Brock Benson each scored eight points. 

With the win, third-seeded Colville (10-11) eliminated the fourth-seeded Rams (5-15), and advanced to play Medical Lake on Thursday, Feb. 19. 

Lakeside Edges Colville in Overtime Thriller Feb. 19

Colville’s season came to an end Thursday Feb. 19, as Lakeside escaped with a 61-58 overtime victory in the NEA League second-place matchup at West Valley High School.

The third-seeded Crimson Hawks battled the top-seeded Eagles to the final possession, but Lakeside made enough plays in overtime to advance to Saturday’s District 5/6 crossover game.

Clay Hanson led the Eagles with 17 points, including six free throws, while Luke Howie added 15 points. Darnold paced Colville with 13 points, knocking down three 3-pointers.

Lakeside (16-6) jumped out early, building a 16-8 lead after the first quarter. Colville (9-13) responded in the second, outscoring the Eagles 15-7 to tie the game at 23-23 at halftime.

The teams traded blows throughout the second half. Colville used 10 3-pointers to stay within striking distance, including two each from Crew Bridgeman and Benson. The Hawks carried a 39-38 edge into the fourth quarter before Lakeside forced overtime, tied at 53-53.

In the extra period, the Eagles outscored Colville 8-5 to seal the three-point win.

Bridgeman finished with 12 points for the Hawks, while Quentin Huggins added nine and Benson scored eight points. 

Lakeside shot 24-of-61 from the field and converted 10-of-16 free throws. Colville finished 21-of-58 from the floor and 6-of-8 at the line.
