Deer Park Alum Continues Baseball Career Post-Mission Trip

Navigating the landscape of college athletic recruiting is a challenge in its own right. Add in being 6,000 miles from home and the challenge is even greater. That is exactly what 2024 Deer Park High School graduate Braylon Dean accomplished. As his two-year church mission to Argentina is winding down, with a return date of Nov. 4, Dean has committed to play baseball at Salt Lake Community College.

He will be joining a program that won the Junior College World Series in 2024. Dean was a four-year starter as catcher for head coach Darren Snyder at Deer Park High School. His high school career began on the heels of the COVID -19 pandemic, during a season with only league level playoffs. The 2021 Stag baseball team dominated the Northeast "A" League with an undefeated record and district championship win over Freeman.

Dean went on to earn all-league recognition his final three seasons, two of which saw post-season runs to the state quarterfinals. Snyder said he is “super proud” of his former player continuing to pursue his dream of playing college baseball following the two-year mission. Snyder noted that “it says a lot about his character and per- severance,” and "the kid just keeps on believing." He added that "it was super satisfying as a coach to watch him develop into a leader by actions," and touted Dean as a base-hitting machine with a knack for getting on base.
