With spring break week at Deer Park High School comes the midway point of the season for the Stags baseball program.
They hold a 5-4 record going into a set of three non-league encounters during spring break week.
The Stags claimed their fifth win of their second Greater Spokane League campaign in the opener against Clarkston on April 3 at Deer Park High School, defeating the Bantams 12-7.
After spotting the visitors a three run top of the first, the Deer Park offense came to life with back-to-back four run innings in the third and fourth frames. Sophomore Payton Talmich was the top run producer, with five driven in. Ezekiel Callaham, who earned the win on the mound with help closing it out from Cayden Knudsvig, had three hits, three runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. One of his hits was a two bagger. Carter Criss had two hits and scored twice while Ian Olietti had a pair of hits and drove in three. Senior Pedar Tobeck scored a pair of runs.
In game two, Clarkston saw the visitors score seven in the opening frame on their way to win 17-2. Austin Bruner, Criss, and Tobeck accounted for the three Stags hits.
Pullman came to town on March 31. After the Greyhounds tallied a single run in the top of the first, Deer Park answered with a pair. Criss reached on an error and scored and Callaham walked and scored.
In the third inning, Callaham singled and scored to even the score at 3-3 with Tobeck driving him in. Pullman would gain themselves some breathing room with a five run fourth inning, giving the visitors a lead they would not relinquish. Deer Park would score two in the fifth inning and three in the bottom of the seventh, bringing the tying run to the on deck circle before falling 12-9. Criss had two hits and Parker Hamilton had a double.
Deer Park travels to Colville on Wednesday, April 8, for matchups against the Crimson Hawks (10 a.m.), Chelan (1 p.m.), and Medical Lake (7:45 p.m.). They are scheduled to face Medical Lake again on Thursday under the lights at the Patterson Baseball Complex at Gonzaga University on Thursday at 8:15 p.m.
