Deer Park unveiled its new community float on April 30, featuring a patriotic theme in honor of America’s upcoming 250th birthday. The float, which took 17 weeks to construct, will represent the town in regional parades throughout the summer season.

Deer Park community members gathered on April 30 for the unveiling of this year’s Deer Park Float, marking the beginning of a new parade season by featuring a patriotic theme in honor of America’s upcoming 250th birthday.

Following the reveal, the float made its debut in a small parade through Deer Park, accompanied by several members of the float committee and local volunteers. The event offered residents a first look at the detailed and symbolic design that will represent the town in parades throughout the region this summer.

Linda Schoening, vice president of the Deer Park Float Committee, said the idea for this year’s theme came unexpectedly during last year’s parade season.

“Last summer we were at one of our parades and float volunteer Warren Morris came over and said ‘It’s America’s 250th birthday next year,’” Schoening explained. “I thought, ’Well, all my other float ideas just took the back burner.’ We came up with this float idea.”

Schoening said she began the process by creating a small model of the float concept. “It’s just suggestive,” she said, “and then we just fly with it.”

According to Schoening, the float is the result of 17 weeks of work, with construction beginning in the first week of January. As royalty families join the effort in March, they assist in bringing the final details together.

“We had to go big,” Schoening said, reflecting the committee’s ambition to create a standout tribute for the historic milestone. The Deer Park Float is scheduled to appear in parades throughout the summer, celebrating both community spirit and the nation’s 250th anniversary.
