Anytime Fitness, located at 3 W. Crawford Street in Deer Park is entering a new chapter as longtime owner Shannon Schroyer passed the torch to new owner Allison Mitchell,. Schroyer, who owned and operated the gym for almost 20 years, said she worked to build a strong foundation and loyal membership base. As Schroyer prepared for retirement, she was intentional about who would take over the space, choosing not an outside buyer, but someone who already knew the gym, its members, and its purpose: longtime employee Mitchell.

Mitchell said she has lived in Deer Park for nearly 10 years, and her husband grew up in the area, giving her strong local ties and a deep connection to the people she now serves. She said her journey with Anytime Fitness began by teaching yoga classes, but over time she stepped into a larger role, taking on administrative responsibilities and helping with daily operations. With a background as a project manager, Mitchell said she brought valuable experience to the business side while continuing to build genuine relationships with members.

Outside of the gym, Mitchell said she also developed a holistic health practice, offering services focused on overall wellness. Her path into that work was shaped by personal challenges, including serious health struggles and a devastating loss that led her to reevaluate her priorities. Through that experience, she said she found healing in holistic health practices, which became a turning point in her life. Mitchell said she offers services such as yoga, wellness coaching, PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) BEMER (Bio-Electro-Magnetic-Energy-Regulation) therapy, and recreational therapy that involves working with horses to support emotional healing and self-awareness.

When Schroyer began considering retirement, she told Mitchell she recognized that same passion and dedication in her. After a couple of years of planning and working together, the transition became official on April 1. Mitchell said becoming the owner has been both exciting and humbling. While much of her day-to-day work feels familiar, the responsibility of leading the business has brought a deeper sense of purpose. She described it as a season where “everything has changed and nothing has changed,” as she continues doing the work she loves while guiding the future of the gym.

In recent months, members may have noticed updates throughout the facility, such as new paint, updated flooring, added equipment, and improved signage. Mitchell said she is also expanding the gym’s technology, aiming to make scheduling, coaching, and membership access more convenient through the gym’s app. Looking ahead, she said her vision centers on making fitness more approachable for everyone.

“I want people to feel like this is a place they can come, no matter where they’re starting from,” Mitchell said. “Fitness can be intimidating, and I want to help break down those barriers so people feel comfortable taking that first step.”

That vision is already taking shape through new community-focused efforts. Mitchell launched a Saturday morning “walk, jog, and run” club that is open to both members and non-members, welcoming families, children, and even pets in a relaxed and inclusive environment. Mitchell said Anytime Fitness is also planning to sponsor events such as the upcoming Sunflower 5K, where they will host a hydration station, as well as supporting local youth through sponsorship of Tri County Little League.

Inside the gym, offerings continue to expand beyond traditional workouts. Mitchell said members have access to group fitness classes, personal training, and recovery options such as red light therapy, along with her holistic health services available within the space. She emphasized three key pillars in her approach – training, nutrition, and recovery – with the goal of helping members build sustainable, long-term habits that support overall well-being.

“My goal is to help people find that balance of mind, body, and spirit,” Mitchell said. “I want this to be a place where people feel supported in their whole wellness journey, not just their workouts.”
