A record-setting performance highlighted the Deer Park High School track and field team at the state meet, May 28- 30, at Mount Tahoma High School. The tandem of Darrin McCanna and Tommy Allison not only captured first place in the unified 100 meter dash, they set a state meet record, clocking 11.62 seconds, bettering the previous top mark of 11.79. Their efforts, which also included a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 32 feet, 9.5 inches, were part of a second-place finish in the inclusive division, which encompasses unified, ambulatory, and wheelchair divisions. Both competitors competed in the events individually, and their performances were averaged to determine the final marks. McCanna was a four-event placer as he was joined by Sophia Phillips, Isabella Taylor, and Keith Schick to place second in the mixed unified 4x100 meter relay. He also teamed with Amaia Breneman, Frankie Allison, and Phillips for a fourthplace finish in the mixed unified sprint medley relay. Jacey Boesel placed 10th in the long jump with a top mark of 17 feet, 2.75 inches, and was 11th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:21.31. Teammate Myah DeSalles was 16th in the long jump with a top effort of 16 feet, 0.5 inches. Elle Callaham placed 10th in the pole vault with a clearance of 9 feet. Kale Blades was 11th in the 200 meter dash with a clocking of 22.72. Mattison Wainwright cleared 4 feet, 10 inches to place 16th in the high jump. The 4x200 meter relay team of DeSalles, Boesel, Sienna Breneman and Riley Blades was 17th in 1:51.44.
