Deer Park Track Sends Multiple Athletes to State

The Deer Park track and field team will be sending 14 athletes to the state meet Thursday, May 28, to Saturday, May 30, at Mount Tahoma High School following their district meet at West Valley High School on May 21. A pair of unified relay teams won district championships. Sophia Phillips, Amaia Breneman, Frankie Allison, and Darrin McCanna won the 4x100 meter race while Phillips, Isabella Taylor, Allison, and McCanna won the sprint medley relay. Emma Bryant won the district title in the 100 meter dash and Jacey Boesel repeated as district long jump champion. Boesel added a second state qualification with a second place finish in the 800 meter run. Junior sprinter Kale Blades won the 100 meter dash and qualified also in the 200 meters with a sec- ond place finish. The 4x200 meter relay team of Bryant, Boesel, Sienna Breneman, and Rilay Blades qualified for state with a second place finish. Also punching their tickets to Mount Tahoma with second place finishes were Ellie Callaham in the pole vault and Myah DeSalles in the long jump. High jumper Mattie Wain- wright placed third and met the state qualifying standard to join the state delegation. McCanna and Tommy Allison won the unified shot put and 100 meter dash events and will travel to Mount Tahoma as district champions. Additional team point scorers with top eight finishes were: DeSalles (third place, triple jump), Chase Bates (third place, 400 meter dash), Chloe Pollock (seventh place, 300 meter hurdles, and eighth place, 100 meter hurdles), Kason Dean (sixth place, 1,600 meters, and eighth place, 800 meters), Callaham (sixth place, 300 meter hurdles), Bryant (fifth place, 200 meters), Phil- lips and Amaia Breneman (second place, unified shot put), Emeri Kapfer (sixth place, pole vault), Kalin Newsom (sixth place, 1,600 meters), Sienna Breneman (sev- enth place, 400 meters), Wainwright (sixth place, shot put), Brooklyn Jacobs (seventh place, 100 meter hurdles), and Riley Wilson (eighth place, 1,600 meters). First team all league recognitions went to: Bryant, Boesel, Tommy Allison, McCanna, Kale Blades, Phillips, Amaia Breneman, Frankie Alli- son, Schick, and Taylor. Earning second team honors were Sienna Breneman, Riley Blades, DeSalles, Callaham, and Wainwright.
