After falling short earlier in the week, the Inchelium girls basketball team responded in emphatic fashion Saturday, Feb. 14, to keep their postseason alive.

Inchelium rolled past Selkirk 62-21 in the Northeast 1B fifth-place game at Deer Park High School, securing a berth in district play.

The Hornets (14-8, 7-5) used a dominant second quarter to seize control. After leading just 4-1 at the end of the first period, Inchelium exploded for 22 points in the second quarter while holding Selkirk to 12, taking a 26-13 advantage into halftime.

The momentum continued after the break. Inchelium outscored the Rangers 19-4 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach, then added 17 more points in the fourth quarter to complete the rout.

Marianna Agapith led the Hornets with 25 points, knocking down 10 field goals and converting 3-of-4 free throws. Ronni Seymour added 15 points, connecting on five 3-pointers as Inchelium buried nine shots from beyond the arc overall.

Inchelium shot 8-of-10 from the free-throw line and finished with 22 field goals. Selkirk (14-10, 8-4) struggled offensively throughout, managing just six field goals. Millie Rice led the Rangers with six points.

Earlier in the week, the Hornets dropped a low-scoring 37-30 decision to Republic in a Northeast 1B third-place bracket game. In that contest, Inchelium was held scoreless in the first quarter and trailed 9-0 before settling in. The Hornets trimmed the deficit to 13-7 at halftime but could not overcome Republic’s balanced scoring.

Marianna Agapith led Inchelium with nine points in the loss, while Dorothy Seymour and Ronni Seymour each added six points. Republic was paced by Ember Berndt with 18 points and Alison Koch-Booher with 14 points.

With the fifth-place victory, the Hornets advanced to districts. Upcoming game details were unavailable at press time.
