Inland Northwest Bookkeeping Services Expands into Deer Park

For Kim Suda, bookkeeping began as a family connection and grew into a 45-year career. Suda, owner of Inland Northwest Bookkeeping Services, is expanding her remote bookkeeping business into the Deer Park area, where her daughter and son-in-law now live and assist with the family business. Suda said her passion for numbers began when she was 12 years old and her father, an accountant, taught her bookkeeping. “We shared a natural love for working with numbers. At just 12 years old, [my dad] began teaching me bookkeeping – long before computers and bookkeeping software were part of the industry,” Suda said. “What began as something we shared together has since become a meaningful and lasting part of my life and career.” Suda said she has owned and operated four businesses of her own.

She also spent 16 years working alongside an accountant, an experience that expanded her understanding of the relationship between bookkeeping and tax preparation. After 30 years of operating her own bookkeeping business, Suda said she felt the time was right to bring her experience to Deer Park. “My daughter and her family live in Deer Park, which means I find myself there often,” Suda said. “We decided it was the perfect time to expand my bookkeeping business and to bring something I truly love doing to support the businesses in a community that they love and call home.” Suda also said, “It felt like the right time to expand my bookkeeping business into Deer Park because I have also brought my daughter and her husband into the business.

[It makes] this expansion even more meaningful to me.” Suda said her family's connection to Deer Park has given her the opportunity to spend more time in the community and develop an appreciation for its residents and businesses. Her experience has also given her firsthand knowledge of what it takes to operate a small business. In addition to her bookkeeping background, Suda said she understands small-town living. “I have also lived in a small town for 34 years and counting, so I understand the impor- tance of community, relationships, and support- ing local businesses,” she said. That experience is re- flected in the way Suda approaches her book- keeping clients.

She said Inland Northwest Bookkeeping Services works primarily with small- to medium-sized businesses and has experience with retail businesses, construction and contractors, ranchers, service providers, rental properties, and nonprofit organizations. Suda said she is also open to working with businesses across industries. The business offers customized monthly bookkeeping services at a flat monthly rate rather than a one-size-fits-all package. Services can range from foundational monthly bookkeeping to more comprehensive packages that include payroll processing and financial reporting. Additional services include accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing and reporting, tax preparation, bank reconciliations, and income and expense reporting.

While the business is primarily remote, Suda said clients can commu- nicate with her through phone calls, text messages, or email. She is also available for in-person meetings when she is in the Deer Park area, and family business team members who live in Deer Park can assist with in-person needs when necessary. “At some point in the future, we may open a physical location depending on demand and needs,” Suda said. For Suda, the advantage of having decades of experience is not simply knowing how to operate bookkeeping software. She said understanding the story behind the numbers is an important part of her work. “What sets me apart from other bookkeeping businesses is the 45 years of experience I have brought to my work,” Suda said.

“Long before computers and bookkeeping software, I learned the importance of understanding the numbers, paying attention to the details, and knowing what the numbers are really telling you.” She added, “My goal isn’t simply to enter numbers into a computer; it’s to understand the business behind those numbers and provide bookkeeping that gives business owners confidence in their financial information.” Suda said clean and accurate books can provide business owners with information they can use beyond tax season. “Good bookkeeping provides a small-business owner with much more than information for tax season,” she said. “It gives them the ability to look back and understand where their business has been while providing the financial information they need to plan for continued growth.”

According to Suda, accurate financial records can help business owners understand expenses, profits and losses, and their overall financial position. That information can help them identify areas where they may need to reduce spending, or see opportunities to invest or expand. Suda also recognizes that bookkeeping software has made it easier for business owners to handle their own books, but said software alone doesn't necessarily pro- vide an understanding of what the numbers mean. “One thing I wish every small-business owner knew about bookkeeping is that their time and energy are valuable,” Suda said. “As a business owner myself, I understand how many responsibilities compete for your attention every day.” Her goal is to take bookkeeping off a business owner's plate while giving them confidence that their financial information is being properly maintained.
