Defeat can be a bitter pill to swallow and on April 18, the Deer Park softball team rebounded from just their third defeat in the past two fastpitch campaigns with a dominant 24-1, 20-3 doubleheader sweep at Rogers.
Following a 9-6 setback at class 2B power Freeman on April 16, the Lady Stags wasted little time displaying their offensive prowess, plating nine runs in the opening frame. A nine-run fourth inning would follow later en route to the 24-1 win in the opener. Junior Lucy Lathrop continued her pursuit of the program’s all-time record with a pair of long balls, driving in four and scoring three times. Hailee Orgill led the squad with four hits, three runs scored and five RBI. Mady Ellingson had three hits, two driven in and scored a pair. Emme Bogle drove in four and scored three with two hits including a homer. Kapri Bailey joined the home run parade as the Lady Stags went deep six times. The sophomore catcher also had a double and drove in three runs. The final home run hitters were freshman Leah Ellingson who had two hits and two runs driven in and pitcher Hailey Thompson who drove in three runs. Jillian Marshall contributed two runs scored and two hits, including a triple. Cheyenne Thomas had a double, triple and two runs scored, while Katelyn Reiter, who had two hits against Freeman, scored three times.
Game two saw the offensive output spread out more evenly as Deer Park wrapped up the sweep. Bailey had four hits, one a homer, scored three times, and drove in six runs. Thompson collected another three hits with four runs driven in. Bogle scored twice, drove in three runs, and added her second homer of the day. Marshall made it a nine home run day for the Lady Stags and the junior had two hits. Lathrop drove in three runs and scored three times on a pair of hits. Freshman sisters Ally and Leah Ellingson each scored three times, while Orgill and Makenzie Reynolds, who had two hits against Freeman, scored twice.
Deer Park hosted North Central on Tuesday with results unavailable at press time and will host East Valley for a doubleheader at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 24.
