Lakeside Boys Win State Team Title, Girls Place Fourth at State

Eagles win Individual and Relay Championships in Sprints, Throws and Javelin

Lakeside’s speed and throwing depth were on full display at the State 1A Track and Field championships, where the Eagles came away with a boys team state championship, a fourth-place finish from the girls team, and a collection of individual and relay titles. Senior Brody Doran led the boys sprint group with a sweep of the 100 and 200 meters. Doran won the 100 in 10.70 seconds and followed with a victory in the 200 in 21.34. He also ran on Lakeside’s state-champion boys 4x100 relay, joining Jett Winger, Jacob Smith, and Tanner Cummings for a winning time of 43.00. Lakeside placed three runners in the boys 100 final, with Bryan Delzer taking fourth in 10.82 and Winger finish- ing fifth in a personal-best 10.87. Smith added a seventh-place finish in the 200 at 22.72, while Delzer was eighth. Winger also delivered a state title in the boys javelin, winning with a season-best throw of 201 feet, 2 inches. Mel Hatch gave the Eagles another boys title in the shot put, throwing 58 feet, 5 inches, and added a second-place finish in the discus at 173 feet, 3 inches. The Lakeside boys 4x400 relay team of Smith, Silas Kaluza, Cummings, and Doran placed fifth in 3:29.42. Cummings also reached the hurdle pre- lims, finishing 10th in the 110 hurdles at 16.32, and ninth in the 300 hurdles at 42.04. Those performances helped Lakeside capture the boys team championship, capping one of the strongest state meets in program history. The Lakeside girls also made a run at the team podium, finishing fourth overall while bringing home multiple state medals and championships. The 4x200 relay team of Layla Jones, Izzy Delzer, Giulia Massignani, and Lainee Higgins won the state title in 1:45.21, edging Cedar Park Christian by six-hundredths of a second. Emily Winborne won the girls javelin with a throw of 125 feet, 7 inches, while Jillian Owen placed sixth in the same event at 115 feet, 2 inches. Jones added a fifth-place finish in the girls 400 in 58.81, and the girls 4x100 relay team of Halle Cossette, Jones, Delzer, and Higgins placed fourth in 50.59. The girls 4x400 team of Jones, Brooke Bowman, Delzer, and Higgins finished sixth in 4:10.33. Bowman also placed fifth in the 100 hurdles in 15.89 and was 10th in the 300 hurdles prelims at 47.96. Cossette was ninth in the 100 hurdles prelims at 16.30. Ava Meusy finished 13th in the girls 3,200 at 12:48.44. In the field events, Owen cleared 10 feet to place fifth in the girls pole vault, and McKenna Almond cleared 9 feet to place 12th. Kaydence Orantes placed sixth in the girls discus at 104 feet, 1 inch.
