What started as helping a friend plan a wedding has grown into a new business aimed at making wedding decorating easier for couples throughout the Inland Northwest. John and Marisa Ala, owners of Wedding Box, officially launched the Deer Park-based business at the beginning of 2026, after spending nearly a year preparing their oneof-a-kind mobile wedding decor rental service.

The Alas, who moved from Denver, Colo., to North Spokane in 2018 before settling in Deer Park in 2020, said they wanted to create a business that combined convenience, affordability, and style. "We've greatly enjoyed renovating our home in Deer Park and bringing the property back to life," Marisa Ala said. Wedding Box is a side business for the couple. Marisa owns The Ala Firm, a Deer Park law practice specializing in estate planning, probate, small business formation, and contract creation, while John works as a software development operations manager at Epiq.

The idea for Wedding Box came after Marisa served as the day-of wedding coordinator for a friend in 2024. "They rented a similar trailer with all the decor," she said. "We saw how well that worked and both thought we could do it even better. We hoped it could become a fun business that we could eventually involve our kids in." Over the next year, the couple purchased decor and customized a trailer to create what they describe as a complete wedding decorating solution. The name, Wedding Box, was carefully chosen to reflect the concept.

"The goal is to deliver all of the desired wedding decor in one 'box' – the trailer," Ala said. Unlike other rental companies that may charge separately for individual items, Wedding Box offers one flat-fee rental that includes nearly everything needed to decorate a wedding venue. According to Ala, customers receive a trailer filled with decor that can transform a home, barn, backyard, or other venue into an elegant wedding space.

Items include a custom-built arbor, wine barrels that can double as cocktail tables, a cake table, head table with bride and groom chairs, candles, floral arrangements, centerpieces, signage, a flower wall, vintage-style seating, and numerous decorative accents. She said the trailer is delivered to the venue, where couples can use as much or as little of the decor as they like before packing everything back into the trailer after the celebration. Wedding Box then returns to pick it up. Most of the decor features an “elegant country style.”

The service is designed for couples planning do-it-yourself weddings who want to save time, money, and the hassle of sourcing decorations from multiple vendors, Ala said. Wedding Box delivers within 20 miles of Deer Park at no additional charge, with a small mileage fee for venues beyond that distance. While setup services are not offered, Ala said couples can use their own wedding coordinator, decorator, family, or bridal party to arrange the decor. As with many new businesses, one of the biggest challenges has been introducing the idea to the community.

"It is a relatively new concept for our area," Ala said. "We are trying to get the word out and really show how this can help couples save a lot of time and energy." Despite being in business for only a short time, Ala said Wedding Box has already participated in three bridal shows this year and plans to attend The Fall First Look Bridal Show in November, along with the Spokane Wedding and Events show in January.

Through Spokane Wedding and Events, Ala said the business has formed partnerships with other professionals in the wedding industry and hopes to continue building relationships with local wedding venues, planners, decorators, and coordinators. Looking ahead, the couple hopes to continue growing the business while refining its services to better meet customers' needs. They also plan to periodically update their inventory to reflect current wedding trends and seasonal styles. "We live and serve Deer Park, so we wouldn't do it any- where else," Ala said. Wedding Box does not have a storefront; the trailer itself serves as the business. To learn more, visit weddingbox.rentals, call 509-903-8017, or email info@weddingbox.rentals.
