The Northwest Christian football team passed the first round of backto-back key Northeast 2B League matchups with flying colors on Oct. 2. The Crusaders traveled to Rockford to face a traditionally powerful Freeman squad. While it took the Crusaders until the final two minutes of the opening period to get on the board, their defense shut down the Freeman attack. Northwest Christian added two more second-quarter scores on their way to a 42-0 win
The Crusaders’ rushing attack was the featured attraction of their high-powered offense as they ran the ball 34 times to 13 pass attempts. Hudson Somes was their key cog with 228 yards on 22 carries. Quarterback Adin Spuler complimented the ground game with 71 yards on seven carries. Braylon Comfort, fresh off his Washington State Football Coaches Association Player of the Week award, had three catches for 39 yards.
Another key matchup in league play awaits as they will face Colfax at Ridgeline High School in Liberty Lake on Friday, Oct. 9. Prior to falling to Newport on Oct. 2, Colfax was ranked number one in the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association Rating Percentage Index poll.
