The Clayton Home Economics club met at the home of Mrs. Elfa Lambier July 10 with Mrs. Emma Stewart as co-hostess. A delicious pitch-in dinner was served at noon. It was decided to hold the club’s annual picnic at Morgan Park on Aug. 11. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Alma Berger on Aug. 14.
Mr. Dunlap had the misfortune of having a stick of wood strike him in the eye. He had an operation some time ago, leaving him blind in one eye, and of course, it was his good eye that was injured. We hope the injury was not serious.
After 28 years, the purple heart has been awarded to Harris Greenberg of Deer Park for a wound he received in Argonne Woods on November 7, 1918, in France. Mr. Greenberg is a local agent for the Great Northern railway. He would like to hear from some of his old buddies who were in the 77th Division, Co B, 305th Regiment.

Jack H. Bell , a 27-year-old Clayton man, was killed last Friday from injuries he received in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 395 about four miles south of Deer Park. Bell was northbound on U.S. 395 at about 7:05 p.m. when he collided with Clara Southerland, 60, of Surrey, B.C., who was southbound. State police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
Wade Kelley, twice appointed to the Deer Park City Council, resigned last Wednesday in order to tend to “family matters” outside of the state. Mayor Robert Brown said the council will not be able to make a “prudent choice” prior to the Aug. 1 filing deadline.
Deer Park, Spokane, Airway Heights, Cheney, and Colville have been included among 100 cities and counties in the state which have earned the designation Host City in Washington’s “Year to Shine” program.

In what has become a monthly routine, Deer Park Municipal Court personnel must begin the tedious process of tracking more than four dozen people who have decided to stop making payments on their tickets. Court Clerk Debi Cragun said about 50 people a month stop making payments, forcing her to begin collection proceedings
Stevens County Clerk Patty Chester recently was awarded 2006 Clerk of the Year from the Washington State Association of County Clerks. Chester, the Stevens County Clerk since 1996, was “extremely honored” to be recognized by her peers for her contributions to the justice system.
Charles and Diane Bauer, looking for a good investment, purchased the Loon Lake Motel on State Highway 292 earlier this year. The couple, who previously lived in Cheney, have a goal of turning the eight-unit air conditioning motel into a family-oriented business. Among the Bauers’ projects is to return the swimming pool to working order.
