Deer Park seventh graders will stage a waste paper drive next week. Only first class paper will be collected. Reason for the decision is that lower grades of paper bring too little per ton to justify preparation and hauling to Spokane. Funds raised during the drive will be used to purchase grade basketball suits for next season.

Michael D. DePaola, radarman third class, received his discharge from the navy at Bremerton Wednesday, March 6. He has returned to Deer Park.

Having had no luck in the past five years, the city staff will begin an educational campaign to get home owners to comply with the proper house numbering plan over the next few weeks. Mayor Robert Brown said the city has to move toward one system and that the one instituted by the former city building inspector, Jim Kropf, in 1981 is “more flexible.”

Witnesses at the fast food business told Deputy Cliff Custer that a white male left the restroom just before smoke started pouring out.

A 64-year-old Chattaroy man spent the night sleeping in the woods on the ground, but apparently suffered no serious consequences from his wintry snooze. Gary Bates, who suffers from dementia, walked away from his home on East Big Meadows Road sometime Thursday afternoon. About 6:30 a.m. Friday, a rescue team spooked Bates who was sleeping beneath the trees.
