Seventy-three youngsters were taken on a roller skating party to Cook’s rink Wednesday evening, March 20. They all went down in a school bus driven by Willis Cofer. Chaperones for the party were Donna Newhart, Mary Morse, and Gordon Evans. Everyone had a fine time and the kids are looking forward to going again soon.
Deer Park, Clayton, and Loon Lake schools will start classes again Monday, March 25, after a 13-day shutdown because of impassable roads. Indications are that bus routes will be dried out by then.
Deer Park high boxers will tangle with Springdale’s scrappers at the local gymnasium Friday, March 22. Fight fans will again see lots of action, as in the previous encounters with Mead and Otis Orchards here.

Tonight’s Deer Park City Council meeting probably shouldn’t be missed by those who are interested in the fate of the community’s airport and its future. Not every aspect of the airport will be discussed, Ehman Shledon, the city’s director of administrative services said, but a number of primary topics will.
The reign of Riverside Junior Miss Kelly Fauske will come to an end this Saturday when one of the 11 aspirants will be crowned her successor. The festivities, entitled “New Images,” will start at 7:30 p.m. at the high school with local television personality Shelly Monahan serving as master of ceremonies for the second straight year.
The Deer Park Future Business Leaders of America went to the regional conference at Eastern Washington University last week and came back with 24 awards. The Deer Park contingent, which competed against 200 students from 10 other schools, were led by first-place individual awards by Tori Semprimoznik in business English and Ronda Robinson in Entrepreneurship II.

A recent State Auditor’s office report for the town of Springdale uncovered a lack of internal controls over key financial systems. The auditor’s office looked at various aspects of the town’s finances, including payroll, billing and cash receipting, cash disbursements, and annual report preparation from Jan. 1, 2003, to Dec. 31, 2004. Among the findings, auditors determined a lack of segregation of duties and management oversight, including several incompatible duties for the clerk-treasurer.
Navy Lt. Cmdr. Robert J. Linebarger, a 1984 Riverside High School graduate, recently departed on a scheduled deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism while assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Peleliu, homeported in San Diego.
The newest addition to the old Deer Park Fairgrounds site, an Autozone store, is expected to be completed by May. The 6,800-square-foot store will be the third such store in the Spokane-area. Another Autozone store is currently being built at Post Falls.
