Work crews from Legacy Building Group continue to rebuild the Clayton Grange, which was destroyed by a fire last summer. Crews hope to have the basement completed by this summer. Photo courtesy Deer Park Tribune, May 10, 2006.

Everyone who expects to build or remodel a kitchen within the next year or two should be studying the new bulletin “Planning an Efficient Kitchen,” says Mrs. Dorothy Raymond, home extension agent for Spokane County. This booklet, just off the Washington State college press, contains hundreds of the most practical ideas for making your kitchen a work shop instead of a “work house.” Parents of children having the measles are requested to note that the county health department regulations require that they remain out of school for 12 days from the onset of symptoms of the disease. Mrs. Mary Martin of Klamath Falls, Ore., an old time resident of Deer Park, is here this week visiting friends and relatives. Her son, Bill Martin, and his friend, Miss Mary Blotti, who are competing in the bowling conference in Spokane, brought her up.

The Deer Park Eagles last week established a trust fund to help defray expenses for Brandon Tyler Berger, the infant son of Brent and Cheryl Berger. Born by cesarean section on April 22 with multiple birth defects, specialists anticipate that with numerous operations and therapy he will eventually be able to walk and play. Seventeen registered Holstein dairy cattle brought a total of $16,225 for a sale average of $954.41 at the Deer Park Fairgrounds Thursday evening. This year’s lower prices reflects the generally difficult economic times being faced by the dairy industry, and the agricultural economy in general, although the axiom that there is always a market for good animals was again borne out. Installation for 1987 officers of Deer Park VFW Memorial Post and Auxiliary 3067 will be at the post home. The installation will be conducted by Jim King, Sr. Vice-commander elect for District 9, and Charlene Karr, District 9 auxiliary president.

A May 2 traffic stop resulted in the discovery of cocaine and the arrest of a 23-year-old Deer Park woman on a felony drug charge. Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputy Robert Brooke was patrolling Deer Park when he stopped a Pontiac Grand Am for having a defective headlight. He determined the driver, 30-year-old Brian D. Lorentzen, had a suspended license and arrested him. The deputy identified the passenger in the car as Kelly B. McGirk and released her from the scene. Brooke then searched the car and discovered a woman's purse with several rocks of crack cocaine. A legal clock is ticking once again on the fate of the Deer Park skate facility at Swinyard Park. Spo- kane County Superior Court Judge Robert D. Austin ruled in December that the city did not violate the Land Use Petition Act by placing the skate facility at Swinyard Park and that the skate park was not a nuisance. Noted Deer Lake artist Debbie Hughbanks walked away with The Contemporary Culture Award in this year’s Trail of Painted Ponies competition. Hugh- banks’ painting on a 2-foot high marble cast sculp- ture of a horse featured various native wildlife, including an eagle, bear, wolf, salmon, mouse, and five Cami Krema buffalo
