Woodrow Mickelson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ole Mickelson, surprised his folks (and everybody else) by getting married in Montana. The young lady is from Spokane. Sorry, I didn’t learn her name. Woodrow and his bride visited his parents Sunday afternoon. The body of Archie Roy Clarkson, 30, of Deer Park, was removed from the waters of Sherman Creek in Ferry County on July 2, after his car left the road and plunged 200 feet into the stream. Death was instantaneous, according to the investigating officers. The campaign of Mayor Earl D. Mix of Deer Park, democratic candidate for county commissioner in the first district, is gaining momentum steadily. The reason behind this is the experience in public business gained during his 12 years as mayor of his home town, and his many years of successful business experience. During his tenure as mayor, Deer Park made progress far greater than at any time in its his- tory. A municipal airport was secured largely through his efforts.

Seeing enrollments drop nearly in half and wanting a greater challenge, Don Newhall has resigned his position of superintendent of Loon Lake School. Newhall, who has seen the enrollment at Loon Lake drop from 118 students when he took the position of superintendent six years ago to a low of 68 for next fall, will take over the job of superintendent principal at Bickleton Elementary and High School in Klickitat, Wash., later this summer. Vicki Simonsen, a teacher at Loon Lake, will take over the job of superintendent at the school on a part-time basis. After more than two years of hearings, denials, and court actions, the fate of Deer Park’s application for a nursing home may be close at hand. Spokane Superior Court Judge Harold D. Clarke last week remanded the thrice-denied application to the state Department of Social and Health Services after delivering what was seen as a stern lecture to the state for the denial. A proposed bus service for commuters and shoppers that would link Spokane-Riverside-Deer Park on a three-times-per-day route schedule has been received with apparent favor by local residents, but busy company officials say that a bigger response is needed before service can actually begin.

Deer Park Animal Medical Center has expanded its staff with the recent hiring of veterinarian Dr. Mary Maddox. Maddox, who will join Dr. Bill Mc- Gaffey at the clinic, will mainly concentrate on dogs and cats. You can blame it on Elvis! Deer Park Concert Series organizers had plenty of logical reasons, including an aggressive marketing campaign and sunny weather, for the record crowd that turned out for Saturday’s performance at the Betty Burdette Gazebo at Mix Park. It would be easier to credit “The King of Rock and Roll” for the packed house. A Clayton man and his mother faced various charges last week, stemming from a rash of thefts and burglaries in south Stevens County. According to court documents, Stevens County Sheriff’s officers went to the Cinthia Maclean residence and discovered TVs, VCRs, stereos, electronic equipment, ceramic statues, and many other items thought to be stolen.
