After a mid-season bye week, the Riverside High School football team returned to action, facing an opponent from the Caribou Trail League for the second straight game as the Cascade High School Kodiaks from Leavenworth visited the Chattaroy campus.
The Rams got the first score of the contest as Spencer Scarpelli reached the end zone on an 8-yard reverse from his wide receiver position. The score capped a seven-play three-minute scoring drive covering 71 yards.
On the Rams’ next possession, the Cascade special teams unit was able to block the Riverside punt on fourth down, setting up the Kodiaks in prime field position at the Rams 16-yard line. The Riverside defense stiffened and stopped the Kodiaks on fourth down to take over at their own 8-yard line.
Following a two-yard gain on first down, quarterback Luke Reedy found receiver Cade Koesel behind the Cascade secondary and hit him in stride for a 90-yard touchdown play. The score after the unsuccessful conversion attempt was 13-6, which the Rams took into the locker room at halftime.
After turning the ball over on downs deep in the Cascade end of the field, the Riverside defense took the spotlight. The Kodiaks were placed on their heels from their own 9-yard line and on their third offensive play of the possession; the Rams Zach Schneider recorded a quarterback sack in the end zone for a safety and 15-6 lead.
Cascade countered with the game’s final three scores, all long runs as the visitors prevailed 26-15. Riverside is set to travel to Nine Mile Falls to face Lakeside at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16.
