The Koesel family bloodline has produced Riverside High School athletes over multiple generations, and Rams junior Cade Koesel left his mark on the Oct. 16 football matchup with Lakeside in Nine Mile Falls. The speedy junior reached the end zone four times, three of them on kickoff returns as the Rams broke the Eagles’ seven game winning streak over the Rams in their Northeast "A" League matchup. On those four plays alone, Koesel accounted for 298 all purpose yards. This was his second time breaking the 250-yard mark of all purpose yardage to go with 258 in the season opener at East Valley.
Lakeside got the first score of the game on a 27-yard run by quarterback Tanner Cummings, only to have Koesel run the ensuing kickoff back 83 yards for a score. Luke Reedy connected with Koesel on a 60-yard scoring pass to give Riverside the lead at 16-8, only to have the Eagles get the next two scores. Cummings ran in from the one yard line then found Jacob Smith on a 32-yard touchdown pass. Trailing 22-16, Koesel scored his second kickoff return touchdown on a 78-yard scamper, which was answered by Cummings on a 21-yard run. Koesel countered with his third kickoff return touchdown from 77 yards.
The Rams increased their lead to 45-28 on a 15-yard Dom Wild touchdown run and a 1-yard run by lineman Jose Rivera who lined up in the backfield. Lakeside added their final score on a 7-yard pass from Cummings to Kannon Almond and Cummings to Nick Hernandez completed a two-point conversion. Riverside is scheduled to entertain Medical Lake on Friday, Oct. 23, while Colville visits Nine Mile Falls to face Lakeside with both kickoffs at 7 p.m.
