A Stevens County Sheriff’s deputy is in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery after being shot twice while responding to a burglary in Suncrest. The suspect was found dead inside the home following a standoff with a regional SWAT team

A Stevens County sheriff’s deputy was injured in a shooting on April 28 while responding to a reported burglary at a Suncrest residence, according to Stevens County Sheriff Brad Manke.

Deputies arrived at the home in the 16000 block of North Suncrest Drive at approximately 2:55 a.m. Upon entering the residence with permission from the homeowner, deputies were immediately fired upon. One deputy was struck twice in the upper chest and shoulder. The injured deputy returned fire before being removed from the scene and transported to a hospital.

A perimeter was established by the Stevens County Special Response Team and Spokane County SWAT. After a standoff, a drone confirmed the suspect was deceased in a bedroom from a likely self-inflicted gunshot wound. The assailant was later identified as Jim Jordan, 66, of Suncrest.

Court records revealed a history of domestic violence at the residence, including a late March incident where the suspect reportedly threatened his wife and stated he wanted to "go out in a blaze of glory" in an officer-involved shooting.

The Washington State Patrol’s Independent Investigative Team has taken over as the lead agency for the ongoing investigation.
