The 43rd Annual Loonsday Race

The 43^rd annual Loonsday race was hosted in Loon Lake on Saturday, June 6. The event had over 100 runners and walkers participate this year, according to event organizers. The first-place runner was Justice Whittekiend with a time of 31:27, followed by Kyle Foster in second place at 32:59, and Caden Boswell in third place at 33:00. The course was a five-mile loop with the start and finish at the Old School House historical building. The proceeds from registered participants and donations “will go back into the Loon Lake community,” said Holly Shamberger, local volunteer with Loonsday and the Loon Lake library. The funds become a part of the Loonsday Community Grant, helping with multiple local projects. The amount raised was not yet determined at press time. The Loonsday Community Grant program collected $22,000 in 2025, funding multiple community resources, such as the Loon Lake Food Pantry and Stevens County Fire District 2 station, according to Shamberger.
