Claudia (Ogden) McBride (age 71) passed peacefully on April 14th at her home in Deer Park after a prolonged battle with cancer. Born to Curtis and Marchina Ogden in Metaline Falls, WA as one of 12 children, Claudia was a 1972 graduate of Riverside HS, earning degrees from Whitworth, Washington State University and Heritage College. A Nationally Board Certified Teacher, Claudia taught in the Harrington and Union Gap school districts before retiring from the Quincy SD in 2019. She shared her extraordinary passion for education with so many children through her love of reading, writing, and creativity through art.
She fondly remembered her early years with her parents and siblings, relishing simple joys like picking berries, camping, and swimming in the nearby lakes and rivers. Family was at the center of her life, along with the many things that brought her joy—swimming at the lake, the pool, or the Y, boating on the river, and especially horseback riding.
Horses were one of her greatest loves, and her horse Midbay's Tequila held a special place in her heart, sharing 34 years exploring the trails of Mt. Spokane. She passed that love on to her daughter, Kristin, teaching her to ride and faithfully supporting her through years of 4-H and horse shows. She also loved watching fireworks, especially Fourth of Julys spent at Lake Coeur d'Alene and later, the wonderful displays in Deer Park. She had a deep love for painting, often capturing nature scenes and animals. Being a grandmother to Lucas brought her immense joy, and she fully embraced the role teaching him to paint, joining in cannonball contests in the pool, and taking part in countless Nerf gun battles.
Claudia is survived by her husband of 47 years, Rich, daughter Kristin (Sam) Hermann, brothers Gary (April) and Ray Ogden; sisters Janet Greenwood, Sharon Jeske, and Debbie (Dennis) Patterson; grandson Lucas, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members whom she loved dearly.
Claudia is preceded in death by her father and mother Curtis and Marchina Ogden, sisters Chris Bunke and Cindy Shepherd; brothers Curtis Jr., Terry, Floyd and Ron Ogden.
At her request, a private gathering for immediate family will be scheduled at a later time. She asked that in lieu of flowers, those desiring are encouraged to share their gift of support with Horizon Hospice.
